This presentation entitled 'Global status of road safety' was made at the 2019 SSATP Annual General Assembly in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. It provides statistical data on road fatalities and road crashes by transport mode. Despite efforts to reduce road traffic fatalities, however, progress is uneven. There exist large inequalities between the share of road traffic deaths in high, middle and low-income countries, with most deaths occuring in low income-countries despite having a much smaller share of vehicles. The presentation concludes by highlighting countries with best practice road safety legislation, remaining challenges, and an overview of WHO's methodology for generating estimates .
