Trade and transport facilitation implies interventions in three broad areas: trade infrastructure (where the private sector is increasingly associated for funding and operations), trade and logistics services (primarily provided by the private sector), procedures and institutional issues (primarily set by the public sector as a regulator). Most of the interventions required to improve trade competitiveness are relevant to a specific geographic context, on the backdrop of an international framework for trade facilitation. It is the combination of this geographic focus and the inclusion of all stakeholders involved in trade and logistics which explains the success of the corridor approach as an effective and focused way to address transport facilitation challenges for both intra-regional and international trade (including transit). The SSATP Corridor Management activities have the objective to support the establishment of corridor institutions promoting an inclusive policy dialogue among all categories of stakeholders.
