WEBINAR: Unlocking Trade & Transport Corridors in Africa: A Data-Driven Approach
Transport corridors in Africa are vital for trade and mobility, yet they face challenges that hinder their efficiency and effectiveness. Recognizing this, the Africa Transport Policy Program Fourth Development Plan (SSATP DP4-2022-2026) advocates for leveraging digital solutions and data-driven decision-making to enhance performance along regional transport corridors.
SSATP, in collaboration with the Transport Global Expertise and Knowledge Unit of the World Bank, recently published the SSATP working paper titled Toward a Data-Driven Understanding of Trade and Transport Corridors. This webinar highlights the key findings of the paper, which presents the advantages and limitations of three corridor monitoring instruments: the corridor transport observatories (CTOs), the Corridor Trip Monitoring System (CTMS), and the Logistics Monitoring System (LMS).
This webinar is particularly useful for policymakers, transport experts, researchers, and stakeholders involved in trade and transport corridors in Africa. By attending, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the potential benefits of integrating data analytics into corridor management activities. They will also learn about the challenges and opportunities in using real-time data collection and analysis to improve corridor performance, reduce costs, and enhance regional connectivity and economic integration.
The webinar is chaired by Mustapha Benmaamar, SSATP Program Manager, and speakers include:
• Barbara Mommen, Former CEO of Maputo Corridor Logistics Initiative (MCLI) – Findings of the SSATP Working Paper
• Adv. Flory Okandju Okonge, Executive Secretary of Central Corridor Transit Transport Facilitation Agency (CCTTFA) – Overview of the Corridor Transport Observatories
• Jayce Lane, Managing Director of Crickmay & Associates – Overview, latest developments and applications of the Logistics Monitoring System
• Lovemore Bingandadi, Expert Consultant, Southern African Development Community (SADC) – Status of the development and deployment of the Corridor Trip Monitoring System
