Global Gateway Knowledge Exchange Workshop at UITP Summit 2023: Paratransit capacity building and fleet renewal programs in the Latin America and Africa regions
Session 1 of the Global Gateway Knowledge Exchange Workshop @ UITP Global Public Transport Summit 2023
This session included short presentations of relevant experiences from Latin American and African cities to professionalize informal transport, drawing on important lessons learned in the areas of sustaining reforms over time (e.g. impact of commercial financing, bus operators’ corporate governance…), access to financing for bus renewal and working capital, as well as the role of government. The presentations of the case studies were followed by a panel discussion that delved deeper into the current challenges and opportunities associated with informal and semi-formal transit capacity building programs.
